How does In Her Hands work?
  • In Her Hands is a no-strings-attached cash assistance program.

  • Participants will receive $36,000 over the course of 3 years Individuals who are selected to participate will be able to choose how they want to receive their payments. They can choose either to receive:

    • $1,000 per month for all 36 months, or

    • $800 per month plus a large, one-time payment they can receive at a time of their choosing during the 3-year program.

  • Additional details on these payment options and the selection process will be shared later in the process.

what do you mean by no strings attached?

Direct, no-strings-attached cash allows individuals and families to invest in what they need — from providing for basic needs, to keeping a roof over their heads, to paying for medical care, to investing in their family and future — and maintain agency over their lives while doing so.

how will this impact Public benefits?
  • Submitting an application will not impact your existing public benefits. In the application you’ll be asked about which public benefits you and/or anyone in your household is currently receiving.

  • If you choose to participate in the program, your benefits may be impacted. Therefore, if you are selected to participate, In Her Hands will provide one-on-one benefits counseling at the time of enrollment so that you can make an informed choice about whether accepting a spot in the program makes sense for you.

  • Keep in mind that benefits counseling is not legal or financial advice. It is a tool to help you make a decision about your program participation.

  • If you have further questions, please consult a representative from the office where you receive your benefits or reach out to our help desk at www.givedirectly.org/support.
